The Religious Education Program at St. James offers classes in grades kindergarten through 8th grade, as well as preparation for the Sacraments of First Communion, Penance and Confirmation. Please click on the links below for schedules and lesson information for each of the classes:

Policy on Absences
If a student is unable to attand a class, please give the office a call to let us know your child will be absent.
Absences in excess of THREE during the course of the year, even though they may be excused for legitamate reasons, must be made up by the student in special make up work.
All lessons and homework should be completed as assigned. Incomplete an unsatisfactory work must be made up before promotion to the next grade level.
Please call the office to notify us of a change in phone number or address.
School Regulations
The students are not allowed to enter the building until 10 minutes before the class begins. (Use Re. Ed Back door only. Please do not use the front door).
Parents must report to the office (Room 116) when picking up a student before dismissal time.
Students should be picked up promptly at dismissal time.
Mass Attendance
All students are expected to attend weekly Mass in addition to the Special Liturgies planned throughout the year for their grade.
Parent Meetings
Parent/Guardian involvement is essential to the success of the Religious Education of our children. Please make a special effort to be present at the scheduled meetings.
Volunteers
Our program is dependant on volunteers. We need many workers. Please reflect on how you can best help.
Inclement Weather
Class cancellations will be announced on the parish website: www.stjamesrcchurch.org/religiouseducation, KJOY 98.3 FM, WALK 97.5 FM, Channel 12 News, and the office answering machine (796-2979). Always check with the office before dropping off students for class on these days.
Adult Education
St. James Parish offers many adult courses and programs which can enrich a person and help one discover new insights into our Catholic faith. Please call the Main office at (516) 731-3710.
Office Hours
The Religious Education office is located in Room 116 in the Parish Center. Please use the rear door Seamans Neck Road side.
- Mondays: 9:00 AM - 1:00PM
- Tuesday through Thursday: 9:00AM - 3:00PM
- Saturday: 9:00AM - 12:00PM
and during all class sessions.
Books
All books will be distributed at the office. They will not be available in the classroom. Please be sure that your child has his/her book for the first day of class. If a student loses a book, he/she must purchase a new one for $20.00.
Registration
Membership in the Parish is required of all registrants. New students must be registered in the Religious Education Program. The student's Baptismal Certificate must be presented at the time of registration.
